For Walt Whitman

(y quizá para alguien más...)

You were; you knew what silence means.
You found the word to unlock the holy joke
and refused to swallow hollow shadows,
I see it in your voice.

You wore the ring of blood the grass does drink;
and your body borrowed wine from every light;
from every soul you took the dark and living gold,
I hear it in your song.

I believe in your most shining strength:
tasting the hum and the secret tremor
of what lies at the core of all rainbow,
I've seen it once in a glimpse.

You were; thus you are all the oaks in the woods,
all the waves, all the sorrows and mountains.
Your body electric is now the whole earth,
I know it, I can feel your breath.
